BaZi calculator FAQ
- What is a BaZi calculator?
- A BaZi calculator converts your birth date and time into the Four Pillars (year, month, day, hour stems and branches) used in Chinese astrology. MingScroll shows clock time, mean solar time, and true solar time so you can see exactly which civil time was used.
- Why does true solar time matter?
- The hour pillar changes every two hours in local solar time. Standard time zones use a fixed meridian; true solar time adjusts for your birth longitude and the equation of time. Near solar-term boundaries, a few minutes can change the month or year pillar.
- What is the early Rat hour (子时) rule?
- Some schools treat 23:00–00:00 as the next day’s hour pillar; others keep it on the same calendar day until midnight. MingScroll lets you choose the rule and documents it on our How We Calculate page.
- Is this the same as a four pillars of destiny calculator?
- Yes. BaZi (八字) and Four Pillars of Destiny refer to the same chart. We cross-check pillars with lunar-javascript and publish our methodology for transparency.
